Backgammon is a great game that people all over the world enjoy, either competitively or casually.  My favorite aspect of the game though, is the board and design of the game pieces.  There are some really elaborate and beautiful backgammon sets out there and I think playing different sets allows you to change up the game experience and makes things interesting.

Just the other day a friend of mine came home from Asia with a backgammon set where the points were raised off the board in a design of ancient temples and the checkers were some type of gem, it was really awesome.  Now, it’s also pretty expensive and it’s not practical to fly off to some exotic location to pick up a backgammon set.

However, you could just get online.  There has been some really great online backgammon sites that have popped up lately that have found some of the best backgammon sets in the world and uploaded their design to their gaming software.  So, without spending a dime you can actually play virtual boards from real life backgammon sets.  That’s pretty awesome, not only because it makes the games more interesting, but also because it’s really fun to see all of the different boars that are out there and play them.  At least I think it is.

Online backgammon has definitely brought the fun of backgammon to millions of people’s homes around the world, but now they seem to branching out into new ways to enhance the gaming experience and attract players.  For my money, adding these different sets was a great idea and I love playing them.
